Known best for his roles in “Star Trek” and “Hearts in Atlantis,” actor Anton Yelchin died on Sunday in a very strange accident. According to reports, the movie celebrity was found dead on Sunday morning, pinned by his own car to a brick mailbox pillar.
Police do not suspect any foul play and believe that it was simply a very odd, freak accident that caused the very promising young actor’s death. He was apparently supposed to meet up with some of his friends that morning, but when he didn’t show up, they came to his San Fernando Valley home to check up on him, which is where they found his lifeless body.
According to the police, the engine of Yelchin’s car was running and it was in neutral. No one knows why he got out of his car, but these facts would lead us to believe that the car slid down his drive, which is fairly steep, and ended up crushing him to death.
The most recent police reports have stated that the car that killed the actor was a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was recently recalled because of rollaway problems that led to 41 injuries.
Yelchin was best known for playing Ensign Pavel Chekov in the most recent Star Trek reboot series of films.
He was only 27 years old.
