Demi Lovato is about to go to court thanks to a lawsuit filed by the indie pop band Sleigh Bells.
According to the lawsuit, the group believes that Lovato’s song “Stars” sounds a bit too much a song of theirs called “Infinity Guitars.”
The lawsuit further adds that when the two songs are compared and analyzed, they are far too much alike, so much that there is no way that this could be a case of coincidence, but rather intentional plagiarism.
When Lovato’s song came out late last year, Sleigh Bells tweeted at the pop celebrity, saying that they were flattered to be sampled, but that the samples were not cleared by them.
We’ll have to wait and see what goes down in court, but as we have learned from recent cases that have been similar, it probably won’t end well for theLovato. As we all remember, one of the biggest similar cases was when the family of Marvin Gaye sued Pharrel Williams and Robin Thicke, and won. The “Blurred Lines” co-writers had to pay a whopping $7.3 million to Gaye’s family in damages for copyright infringement.
