Scarlett Johansson Quits As Oxfam Ambassador Due To Soda Campaign

Hollywood beauty Scarlett Johansson has resigned from the position as the ambassador for global charity confederation Oxfam after she made an agreement with Israel-based company SodaStream.

SodaStream is one of the companies that Oxfam called for people to boycott.

Scarlett found herself under critique after signing a contract for a new advertising campaign with the beverage firm. SodaSteam has links to the Middle Eastern state’s West Bank which is the place of ongoing conflicts between the Israeli population and Palestinians.

The signed contract was contradictory with her duties as a spokesperson for Oxfam, which are, “opposed to all trade from Israeli settlements”, and now she has decided to end her 8-year long obligations to the charity.

Oxfam published a statement that reads, “Scarlett Johansson has respectfully decided to end her ambassador role with Oxfam after eight years.”

“She and Oxfam have a fundamental difference of opinion in regards to the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. She is very proud of her accomplishments and fundraising efforts during her tenure with Oxfam.”

Scarlett began her work with Oxfam in 2007, when she took a trip to India and Kenya in order to raise awareness of global poverty.

Oxfam is a worldwide association of 17 organizations working together to find solutions to poverty and related injustice around the world.
