Doris Roberts, who won four Emmys for her role in the hit sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” has died at the age of 90. Roberts was best known for her role as Ray‘s meddling mother Marie Barone in the incredibly popular sitcom.
According to a representative of the family, Roberts was healthy and active until her final moments. She died in her sleep and went very peacefully.
Ray Romano, the celebrity comedian who played her son on the hit show, only had great things to say about her over the years. Romano said that he was always impressed with her spirit and that whether they were working on the show, with charities or helping young comedians learn the craft, Roberts always gave it everything she had.
Roberts was born in Saint Louis in 1925 but was raised in New York.
CBS, the television station that initially broadcast “Everyone Loves Raymond,” said that Roberts “will be remembered for lighting up every room she walked into.”
