Pistorius Apologizes To Dead Model’s Family

Oscar Pistorius apologizes with tears to model Reeva Steenkamp’s family after shooting her dead. He said he’s been going through a nightmare world of anti-depressants and sleepless nights since. He apologized on Monday, April 7th.

The South African Paralympian is now on trial accused of murdering Reeva in February 2013. He took the stand on Monday to begin his defense.

As he entered the witness box he said through tears,

“Oh help me God.”

He could barely speak coherently as he told the court,

“I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Mr. and Mrs. Steenkamp, to Reeva’s family, to those of you who knew her and are here today.”
“There hasn’t been a moment since this tragedy happened that I haven’t thought about your family. I wake up every morning and you’re the first people I think of. The first people I pray for. I can’t imagine the pain or the sorrow and the emptiness that I’ve caused you and your family. I was simply trying to protect Reeva. I can promise that when she went to bed that night she felt loved.”

He then revealed that he has been taking anti-depressants and had sleepless nights since the incident. He added,

“I am scared to sleep… I have terrible nightmares about what happened that night. I wake up and I can smell blood.”

He openly sobbed and retched as Professor Jan Botha, pathologist, described the effects of gunshot on Reeva, a 29-year old model.

The 27-year old Pistorius is accused of intentionally shooting his model girlfriend through a bathroom door. It happened in his South African home.

Oscar claims he shot the model by accident, mistaking her for an intruder. He also denies one charge of murder and three other firearms offences.
