Oscar Pistorius has been found guilty of murder by a South African appeals court. Pistorius killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp with four shots from a firearm through a locked toilet door on February 14, 2013. He has already spent one year in jail and is currently under house arrest, but he will have to return to court in order to be re-sentenced for murder. In South Africa, the minimum sentence for murder is 15 years, but Oscar could receive a lower sentence.
The South African Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the previous manslaughter verdict, elaborating that the lower court did not correctly apply the “dolus eventualis” rule, or whether the accused knew that death would be a result of his actions.
