Oscar Nominations Are Finally Here

1

‘’The Revenant’’ tops this year’s Oscar nominations list with 12 nods while ‘’Mad Max: Fury Road’’ closely follows with 10. Both movies are nominated for Best Picture, along with ‘’The Big Short,’’ ‘’Bridge of Spies,’’ ‘’Brooklyn,’’ ‘’The Martian,’’ ‘’Room” and “Spotlight.”

As far as Best Actor is concerned, Leonardo DiCaprio has once again been nominated, competing against last year’s winner Eddie Redmayne, Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon and Michael Fassbender. Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence and Saoirse Ronan are up for Best Actress.

“Carol” seems to be the most snubbed movie, failing to receive both the Best Picture and the Best Director nominations. Quentin Tarantino’s “Hateful Eight” was also overlooked in many categories, scoring only 3 nominations.

Unfortunately, the 2016 Oscars will once again be almost completely white and to make matters worse, this is the second consecutive year without a single non-white actor nominated. The 88th Academy Awards, hosted by Chris Rock will be held at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on 28 February. Here’s a full list of nominees:
