New Daily Show Host Trevor Noah Faces Backlash Over Anti-Semitic Tweets
Newly-announced host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah has been accused of Antisemitism and sexism over his past controversial tweets. Less than a day after he was named as John Stewart’s replacement on the legendary satirical show, Noah has spoken out in his defense following the social media backlash over comments he made on Twitter between 2009 and 2014.
For example, in 2009 he wrote: “Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn’t look b4 crossing but I still would hav felt so bad in my german car!”
The South African comedian took to Twitter on Tuesday to issue something that seems like an apology.
‘’To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian.’’
Comedy Central also came to his defense, calling Noah a ‘provocative’ comedian who ‘spares no one, himself included.’ They also said in a statement that he has ‘a bright future at Comedy Central.’
