Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman had quite the scare on Saturday as his private plane had to make an emergency landing just minutes after takeoff. The famous actor was traveling from his home in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Houston Texas when a tire blew on takeoff and a number of other problems ensued. Both Freeman and his pilot were unharmed.
The actor told E! News that he was headed to shoot a segment for the series The Story of God.
Though his plane is in a bad shape now, the 78-year-old actor says he and pilot Jimmy Hobson are fine thanks to Hobson’s skills.
Here’s what he said:
“Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on takeoff, which caused other problems. But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson, we landed safely without a scratch.”
Freeman is also a pilot and has been flying private planes for years. He told Airport Journals that Hobson often gives him lessons, describing him as a ‘terrific instructor.’
