Madonna Performs Tribute To Prince At Billboard Awards

One of the highlights of the Billboard Music Awards last night was no doubt Madonna‘s performance. The Queen of Pop took the stage in purple to pay tribute to her friend and fellow pop star Prince, who passed away last month.

The complete tribute was touching. It was kicked off by The Roots drummer Questlove stepping on stage to talk a little bit about the late icon and his huge influence on popular music.

Questlove then introduced Madonna, who came out dressed in a purple, sparkling pantsuit ensemble and was sitting on a purple throne. She then started passionately singling “Nothing Compares 2 U,” the track made famous by Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, but written by Prince.

The audience, obviously filled with celebrities from all branches of the entertainment industry, went absolutely nuts. Madonna continued her performance, stepping closer to the crowd and singing while pictures of Prince flashed behind her.

She was then joined on stage by another legend, the incomparable Stevie Wonder, who joined Madonna to sing a very emotional version of Prince‘s classic tune “Purple Rain.”
