Lewy Body Dementia May Be Responsible For Robin Williams’ Suicide

As TMZ reports, quoting sources close to the family, Robin Williams’ depression and consequently his suicide may have been connected to a disease called Lewy Body Dementia or dementia with Lewy bodies.

It is caused by the accumulation of Lewy bodies, which are bits of a particular protein, in those areas of the brain that control some of the memory and motor skills. This illness is characterized by changes in a person’s cognitive functions, alertness, and mood. It also has symptoms resembling those of Parkinson’s disease. In addition, persons suffering from this form of dementia frequently experience bouts of depression.

It has been confirmed that, prior to his suicide, Williams had been struggling with depression, as well as with alcoholism and drug abuse. As a well-informed source told TMZ, the Williams family believes that the actor’s depression and suicide are a direct consequence of Lewy Body Depression.
