The profitability of Lady Gaga’s charity organization has been brought to questioning after running costs exceeded $1.9 million, out of which the biggest part went to lawyers and consultants.
Charity foundation Born This Way was launched in 2012 by the pop superstar aiming at preventing bullying and empowering her young fans. However, the same year, “strategic development” and “philanthropic consulting” costs reached almost half of the non-profit charity revenue of $2,7 million.
Talking in numbers, $406,552 was spent on legal fees, $300,000 on strategy and charity consultation cost the organization $150,000.
To make things more bizarre, during the same period, only one grant was awarded, totaling $5,000.
And that’s not all. Travel costs within the organization went up to $78 thousand, while publicity cost $58,678.
Nevertheless, a spokesperson insists all costs are justified telling New York Post, “Every dollar spent across these categories, including the legal fees towards the safe and effective implementation of each initiative, directly serves the Born This Way Foundation’s core mission of empowering youth.”
