Kesha Files Appeal In Legal Battle With Dr. Luke

Following a judge’s decision to keep Kesha in her recording contract with her alleged abuser Sony music producer Dr. Luke, the singer and her legal team filed an appeal, comparing the ruling to ‘slavery.’
Her lawyers argued that the court was misinformed, saying that Kesha cannot record without Dr. Luke interfering in her work. Even though Kesha’s appeal said that ‘slavery was done away with a long time ago’ and that ‘you can’t force someone to work…in a situation in which they don’t want to work,’ it still pointed out that the musician could in no way create music without including Dr. Luke. Namely, if she were to work for his companies, that would be the same as working for and with him.
Kesha’s legal team also said the judge was wrong to claim that no irreparable harm had been done to her career, arguing that the music industry has proven time and time again that ‘a young pop star’s fame will fade quickly and permanently due to a loss of momentum.’ Dr. Luke’s rep repeated that the court stated on more than one occasion that she was free to record without him. They stressed once again that all her allegations are false.
