Katy Perry Confirmed As Super Bowl Halftime Show Main Act

As announced last night during halftime of the NY Giants-Dallas Cowboys game, Katy Perry will be the star of the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show.

The Super Bowl halftime show is probably the most-watched event on television. In 2014, it drew as many as 115.3 million viewers, more than the actual game did, which had 112.2 million viewers.

Katy Perry joins the ranks of Madonna, Beyonce, Janet Jackson, Red Hot Chili Peppers and other superstars as the main entertainer of the most watched sports event of the year.

Last month there was some talk about the NFL asking the halftime performers to pitch in financially and help the league, since it’s no secret that performing at the Super Bowl halftime is a major boost for record sales and tour bookings.

However, Perry said that she is “not the kind of girl” to pay to do a performance. Super Bowl XLIX will take place on February 1 in Glendale, Arizona.
