Joan Rivers And Elaine Stritch Forgotten At The Oscars

Sydney Stages Annual Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade

Although we are used to the fact that the Oscars ‘In Memoriam’ tribute somehow manages to leave out a few reputable celebrities each year, it really came as a shock that the Academy decided not to pay tribute to two of the funniest and most influential women in show business, Joan Rivers and Elaine Stritch.

Yes, they worked for television primarily, but that doesn’t mean they should be forgotten at the Oscars, especially when you have in mind that Rivers worked the ceremony’s red carpet for two decades.

What makes the situation even worse is that everyone in the audience applauded and stood up when Patricia Arquette delivered a touching acceptance speech about women’s rights and gender equality in America, but no one seemed to remember their fellow actresses.
