Jessica Chastain Is New Monroe

Jessica Chastain is set to become another actress to portray icon Marilyn Monroe on the big screen. Allegedly, she landed the lead role in director Andrew Dominik’s new drama titled Blonde.

According to, she will replace Naomi Watts in the movie, which is an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same title.

The book earned the author Pulitzer Prize consideration in 2001 when it was published. It conjures Monroe’s personality and attempts to tell the story from the point on Norma Jeane Baker, which was Monroe’s real name.

If this is not just a rumor, Chastain will join stars such as Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn), Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd (Norma Jean & Marilyn) and Susan Griffiths (Marilyn & Me), who have also portrayed Monroe.

In a TV mini-series from 2001, Australian actress Poppy Montgomery portrayed the singer/actress.

Marilyn was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson (soon after she changed it to Baker), as the third child born to Gladys Pearl Baker.  Monroe’s birth certificate states the father to be Martin Edward Mortensen, with an unknown residence.

The name Mortenson is provided as her surname on the birth certificate, although Gladys, the mother, immediately had it changed to Baker, the surname of her first husband.

Monroe said once that when she was a child, she was presented a photograph of a man that Gladys identified as her father, Charles Stanley Gifford.

She remembered that he had a thin mustache and resembled famous Clark Gable and that she had amused herself during childhood by pretending that Clark was her father.
