Critically Acclaimed Actor And Director Richard Attenborough Dies At 90

The renowned actor and Oscar-winning director Richard Attenborough died on Sunday.

According to his son Michael Attenborough, the famous director had been in poor health for a long time.

Prime Minister David Cameron released a statement, calling Attenborough “one of the greats of cinema.”

“His acting in `Brighton Rock’ was brilliant, his directing of `Gandhi’ was stunning,” Cameron concluded.

Sir Ben Kingsley, who established himself as one of the greatest actors of our time with his performance in the 1982 movie Gandhi, recalled Attenborough’s conviction and passion to bring the story of Mahatma Gandhi to life on the big screen.

Kingsley said:

“He placed in me an absolute trust and in turn I placed an absolute trust in him and grew to love him”. “I along with millions of others whom he touched through his life and work will miss him dearly.”

The film received eight Oscars, including best picture, best director for Attenborough and best actor for Kingsley.

As an actor, Attenborough’s most notable movies include Brighton Rock, The Great Escape, 10 Rillington Place, Miracle on 34th Street, and Jurassic Park.
