Former Olympian and reality star Bruce Jenner rear-ended a car Saturday, causing a tragic accident that claimed the life of a female motorist. Five other people were injured in the accident.
It was first believed that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star had a cell phone in his hand, but a photo taken right before the crash could prove he was not texting while driving.
TMZ now reports that smoking may have been the cause of the crash. Although texting while driving is illegal in California, smoking is not.
The pictures show Jenner holding a cigarette moments before impact. Just before the crash, five paparazzi were following Jenner’s dark blue Cadillac Escalade.
The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department was getting a search warrant to determine if he was texting, but the latest pictures seem to make it unnecessary. People who text while driving can be prosecuted for vehicular manslaughter if someone dies as a result.
