BMX Star Dave Mirra Commits Suicide

North Carolina authorities have confirmed that X Games legend Dave Mirra died yesterday of an apparent suicide.

The 41-year-old bike icon was found in his truck in Greenville, North Carolina with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Hours before taking his life, Mirra took to Instagram to share a heartwarming message for his wife Laura. Now, it seems he was actually saying goodbye to her. The couple had two children together.

My rock! Thank god

Mirra held the record for most X Games medals until Bob Burnquist broke it in 2013. Mirra was also a rally driver and competed in ironman and triathlons. He hosted 2 seasons of ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge‘ on MTV.

Here’s what his good friend and colleague T.J. Lavin said about Mirra’s tragic death:

“I just wish he would have called me. I would have jumped on a plane in a second. There’s always another way. If anyone needs help, just please get it. I feel sick about this.”

Rest in peace!
