“Blade Runner” Found Guilty Of Manslaughter

Oscar Pistorious, the star Olympic runner who runs with specially made blades instead of legs, was not found guilty of premeditated homicide in the murder case of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

However, he was found guilty of culpable homicide, which is the South African equivalent to what is known as manslaughter in the United States.

The trial was very well publicized in South Africa, but all around the world as well. The star disabled track runner was accused of killing his girlfriend in February 2013. According to the police accounts, Pistorious fired a handgun into a locked bathroom and later found out that his girlfriend was inside at the time.

Pistorious’ defense claimed that he thought that there was an intruder in the home and that he was defending himself. The prosecution was trying to prove that the murder was premeditated and that Pistorious knew that Steenkamp was in the toilet cubicle at the time.
