Beyoncé kicked off her Formation world tour yesterday in Miami, exceeding the expectations of the Beyhive without resorting to any visual effects or stage antics.
Of course, this tour has been highly-anticipated ever since she performed Formation during the Super Bowl halftime show. When you combine that show with the hype surrounding her new visual album Lemonade, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Queen Bey has sold out stadiums across the U.S. and Europe.
Beyoncé opened the tour with her empowering hit Formation and proceeded to honor Prince, sing ‘Sorry,’ which features the infamous Becky lyric, and dedicate ‘Halo’ to her husband Jay Z, saying, ‘I want to dedicate this song to my family, thank you guys for supporting me. I want to dedicate this song to my beautiful husband, I love you so much.’
Now, though her audience might have expected her to dis Jay Z during the performance, this just goes to show that critics may be right when they claim that the entire infidelity-themed Lemonade is an excellent publicity stunt. Whether these claims are true or not, one thing’s for sure – Beyoncé knows how to engage the interest of millions of people around the globe.
