Popular singer Beyoncé has found herself under fire of critics and activists due to her raunchy performance at the Grammy Awards this Sunday, 26 January. The show was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Parental groups and activists for female equality were furious after the singer opened the show in her “butt-baring” stage costume, and performed some not-so discreet moves during the song “Drunk in Love” along with her husband Jay Z.

She was under fire of many campaigners who claimed that her performance was unsuitable for children, while others criticized her for her semi-nude outfit arguing that, since Jay Z was fully-clothed, it was promotion of inequality of genders. Well, if Jay Z appeared only in his pants, would it be promotion of equality among the sexes?

“There is something rotten at the heart of this so-called “music” industry when young women celebrities and now a husband and wife start to behave in such an obscenely sexual manner at events popular with all ages. They are doing enormous harm to children’s perception of what is normal behavior.” told Pippa Smith, a member of SaferMedia, for Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper.

A UK spokesman of Mediawatch, Vivienne Pattison, added, “In this footage, Beyoncé is wearing a really skimpy outfit but Jay Z is not. If girls and women are seen exclusively as sexual beings rather than as complicated people with many interests, talents and identities, boys and men may have difficulty relating to them on any level other than the sexual.”
