And The New Host Of The Daily Show Is…
Comedy Central has confirmed that Trevor Noah, a 31-year-old South African comedian and one of the newest Daily Show correspondents, has officially been chosen as the new host of The Daily Show. Noah, who has appeared on the popular satirical show only three times will succeed longtime host Jon Stewart after his departure later this year.
In a phone interview with the Times from Dubai, Noah said he had been given a great opportunity.
“You don’t believe it for the first few hours. You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”
Noah also took to Twitter to share his excitement, saying ‘No-one can replace Jon Stewart. But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!’
After hosting the show for 16 years, Stewart announced on Feb. 10 that he was leaving the much-loved series. Although no one can replace him, Stewart said that Noah is the right man for the job. He even added that he ‘may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!’
“I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with.”
