The 1990s were really something. It took us some time to shake off the frame of mind and the style of the 80s but by 1992, we were knee-deep.
The Soviets weren’t around anymore, LA was burning and Terminator 2 came out as the best movie ever. Rap continued to grow and expand, movies got a bit better, internet porn started happening and people wore flannel again. Seattle became a cultural center, we went into Iraq for the first time, the tech industry exploded, we cloned a sheep. Oh yeah, and people used pagers.
But who were the stars that we loved in the 1990s? Who were the faces that teens had on their walls?
Let’s check it out.
1. Britney Spears And Christina Aguilera
We had the whole Celtics vs. the Lakers thing; Coca Cola vs. Pepsi; Marlboro vs. Lucky Strike; The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones. And then, in the late 90s, we got another eternal rivalry with two young pop stars pitted against each other – Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
It goes without saying that each of the two megastars deserves her own entry, but in the late 1990s it was all about their rivalry and since we are representing the 90s here, we decided to pit them against each other. Sue us.
In January 1999, Britney came out with …Baby One More Time, Crazy, Sometimes and Born to Make You Happy and Christina punched back in August with Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants and Come on Over. Pop music would never be the same again.
