21 Greatest TV Shows Of All Time
Before we start listing the greatest 21 American TV shows of all time, we feel we should include a few disclaimers.
First and foremost, this is a pretty subjective list, which means that many of you will be annoyed that some shows made the list while others (which you think are more deserving) did not. We did try our best to be objective, but it’s not an easy task.
Also, the list will include no soaps, which probably won’t be such an issue for most of you. Furthermore, the list is not ranked, meaning that #4 is not superior to #5 on the list or vice-versa. Finally, most of us are in their thirties, meaning that some older shows may not have made the list even though some of you think they should have.
These are TV shows that have, for the most part, brought something new to TV and that have upheld certain standards in writing, directing, production and acting for the most part of their runs.
1. The Simpsons
The Simpsons is more than just a TV show. It is a phenomenon that has contributed to America being what it is today. It is arguably the best animated show ever made and among the best sitcoms ever created. It is also a family show with more heart than most.
Since its beginnings in 1989, the show has never been afraid to admit that not all families are perfect and that the American Dream may not be what some other shows want you to believe. It is a show that is immaculately written and voiced to perfection.
Sure, the last 10-15 seasons were not as great as the golden years (seasons 4 through 10), but at its peak, it was the best thing on TV. It is difficult to imagine that TV existed before the Simpsons did, that’s how great of an influence the show has had.
